Description

Bitter gourd, also known as bitter melon, is a vegetable that is popular in many Asian and African countries. It is a climbing vine that requires a warm and humid climate to grow. Here are some instructions for planting bitter gourd:
1. Choose a sunny location: Bitter gourd needs at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight every day. Choose a spot in your garden that receives plenty of sunlight.
2. Prepare the soil: Bitter gourd prefers well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. Add compost or well-rotted manure to the soil to improve its fertility.
3. Sow the seeds: Bitter gourd seeds can be directly sown into the soil or started indoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost. If sowing directly into the soil, plant the seeds ½ to 1 inch deep and 2-3 feet apart.
4. Water the plants: Bitter gourd requires regular watering, especially during the growing season. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Water the plants deeply once a week, or more often during hot and dry weather.
5. Provide support: Bitter gourd is a climbing vine that requires support to grow. Provide a trellis or stakes for the vines to climb on.
6. Fertilize the plants: Bitter gourd responds well to regular fertilization. Apply a balanced fertilizer every 2-3 weeks during the growing season.
7. Harvest the fruit: Bitter gourd can be harvested when the fruit is about 4-6 inches long. Pick the fruit regularly to encourage more fruit production.
Following these instructions should help you grow healthy and productive bitter gourd plants.
