Variketeri Brinjal is a handsome variety producing glossy fruits beautifully streaked in purple and white, with a tender, flavourful, few-seeded flesh. High-yielding and robust, the plants crop heavily over a long season in warm climates. The striped fruits are wonderful in curries, roasting, bharta and stir-fries. Sow in seedling trays, transplant into full sun in fertile, well-draining soil, feed regularly, and harvest firm, tender fruits in about 70–80 days. An attractive, productive brinjal that’s easy to grow in garden beds, grow bags and terrace plots.
