A vigorous climber, it crops heavily in warm climates and is valued for its cooling, blood-sugar-friendly properties. The tender fruits are delicious in thoran, stir-fries, curries and fries. Sow seeds in full sun in fertile, well-draining soil, provide a strong trellis to climb, and harvest young fruits in about 55–65 days.
