Description
Syngonium podophyllum (nephthytis) or the Goosefoot Plant is a simple but elegant and versatile houseplant. It can be grown easily as a compact bushy looking plant, or you can accept its creeping, climbing nature and grow it tall up a moss stick. It also plays well if you want to grow several different types of house plants together in a large container. Arrowhead leaf color varieties vary from dark green to highly variegated dark and light green, but the leaf of each arrowhead variety will always have that interesting arrow shape. You can keep the arrowhead plant pruned so it only has juvenile leaves, or you can allow it to mature and climb up a trellis or support sticks.
Syngonium podophyllum ‘Cream Allusion’ is an especially compact variety, it has medium-sized leaves that are creamy-green in color and infused with pink.
Watering
Keep the potting mix moist in summer, allowing the surface to dry out before watering again. Water less often in winter, letting the top half of the potting mix dry out.
Light
Bright light, but no direct sun. The cream allusion plant is a great container plant for shady balcony gardens that don t get much direct sunlight. If you have a southern exposure with bright light, it will do better in an indoor garden. It tolerate low light, but the leaves may lose their variegation. Turn pot regularly for even growth.
Potting Mix
Any good potting mix. Use a container with good drainage.
Fertilizer
Feed every 2 weeks from except in winters with a balanced house plant fertilizer diluted to half the normal strength. In winter, feed monthly.
Care Instruction
Syngoniums are the perfect beginner houseplants! They are easy to maintain and are forgiving if you neglect it sometimes. Syngoniums prefer bright indirect or filtered light, however they survive in low light conditions too. Keep them in a semi shaded spot in the balcony or near a window but keep it away from direct sunlight.
Water the arrowhead plant 2-3 times a week. The arrowhead plant should be allowed to dry out between waterings. Although the plant enjoys some moisture, it should not be kept too wet, which may lead to root rot. Always irrigate until water starts running out of the bottom drain holes. Cut down on the watering during the winters however Don’t let it completely dry out.
